The 7 deadly sins (pride, envy, wrath, sloth, greed, gluttony, and lust) are considered moral vices that can lead to destructive behaviors if left unchecked. Each sin corresponds to particular emotional dysregulation patterns and cognitive distortions. Managing thoughts and emotions associated with these vices involves recognizing the underlying triggers and practicing emotional regulation strategies.
1. Pride (Hubris/Arrogance)
Emotional Regulation Link: Overinflated ego, lack of humility, defensiveness.
Example Trigger: Feeling superior to others or refusing constructive criticism.
2. Envy (Jealousy/Resentment)
Emotional Regulation Link: Comparing oneself to others, feelings of inadequacy.
Example Trigger: Seeing a friend achieve something you want.
3. Wrath (Anger/Rage)
Emotional Regulation Link: Difficulty managing frustration, impulsive reactions.
Example Trigger: Perceived injustice or offense.
4. Sloth (Apathy/Laziness)
Emotional Regulation Link: Procrastination, avoidance, or lack of motivation.
Example Trigger: Feeling overwhelmed by a large task.
5. Greed (Avarice/Excessive Desire)
Emotional Regulation Link: Obsessive focus on acquiring more, fear of scarcity.
Example Trigger: Compulsion to outdo others materially.
6. Gluttony (Overindulgence/Excess)
